Six Months of thanks.

Today, as I think of a day where I said goodbye, before I said hello.
When I called cemeteries before I saw the birth doctor.
I smiled at my baby for the last time while it was still just barely my first.
Today, I think. Am I grateful for what I have — Right. Now.
Yes, the other child-smiles, the giggles, the hugs and cuddles.
But also the messes, and the exhaustion, and the laundry, and the tears.
Because, while those aren’t in the least bit pleasant, there is an alternative that is even more less pleasant.
Today, I’m thankful I’ve lived both realities.
And I’m thankful for today.
Happy 6 months day, little guy.
